Después de siete años de retraso, Tommy Callahan III (Chris Farley) consigue graduarse en la universidad y vuelve a su pueblo para encargarse junto a su padre Thomas (Brian Dennehy) del negocio familiar. Sin embargo, al llegar descubre que su progenitor se va a casar con una mujer que tan sólo ansía la fortuna familiar, y que además tiene un hijo igual de ruin que ella. Tommy se aliará con un antiguo amigo de su padre para impedir el enlace.

Una comedia juvenil en cuyo reparto aparecen Dan Aykroyd, Bo Derek, Rob Lowe o Brian Dennehy, en torno a un típico rito de iniciación del joven de turno, un tema común en este tipo de historias para adolescentes. Fue el segundo largometraje para la gran pantalla de Peter Segal, que tras haber trabajado en televisión, debutó como director con “Agárralo como puedas 33 1/3: el insulto final”, y que posteriormente ha dirigido títulos como “El Profesor chiflado II: La familia Klump”, “50 primeras citas” o “El clan de los rompehuesos”.
