Sinopsis
La infancia de John Lennon (Aaron Johnson). Liverpool, 1955: un quinceañero inteligente y rebelde, sediento de vida. Una familia en la que abundan los secretos, con dos mujeres enfrentadas respecto al futuro de este chico, John Lennon: Mimi Smith (Kristin Scott Thomas), la tía severa que lo ha criado, y Julia (Anne-Marie Duff), su madre llena de vitalidad. Impulsado por su deseo de tener una familia normal, John se refugia en el nuevo y excitante mundo del rock, donde su genio inmaduro encuentra su alma gemela en el adolescente Paul McCartney (Thomas Sangster). Pero justamente cuando John está a punto de empezar una nueva vida, sufre una trágica pérdida. El joven Lennon, entonces, tendrá que encontrar fuerzas suficientes para seguir adelante, y su voz resonará por todo el mundo dando vida al mito.

Película basada en los años adolescentes de John Lennon y a partir de las memorias de su hermanastra Julia Baird y que ha servido de debut en la dirección de largometrajes de la prestigiosa artista británica Sam Taylor Wood (Londres, 1967). Los años de formación de uno de los grandes iconos del siglo XX. Básicamente, parte de un Lennon de 15 años con su corazón dividido entre la tía tradicionalista y puritana Mimi que le ha criado y su madre, Julia, loca por el rock, a la que apenas conoció. El Lennon adolescente es retratado como un joven confuso y triste, que halla refugio a sus males en la música. Taylor Wood considera la película más una declaración de amor hacia John Lennon que una simple biografía de un adolescente en sus años fundamentales de crecimiento e inspiración del futuro genio. Por supuesto, la película va acompañada de una banda sonora potente a base de los clásicos del rock de la época. Taylor Wood inició su trayectoria artística en la ópera, ha dirigido varios vídeos para sus amigos (Elton John, Pet Shop Boys) y fue encargada en 2002 por la National Portrait Gallery de rodar un vídeo de David Beckham durmiendo.
