    Sinopsis

    Cuando el capitán de marines Bob Hyde (Bruce Dern) parte hacia Vietnam, su esposa Sally (Jane Fonda) se ofrece voluntaria para trabajar en un hospital local, donde entabla una especial relación con Luke Martin (Jon Voight), un antiguo sargento que quedó parapléjico como consecuencia de una herida de guerra. Luke, amargado por su situación, recupera la esperanza y la confianza en sí mismo gracias a Sally. Ella, por su parte, irá cambiando su firma de entender la vida, el amor y la guerra, enamorándose de Luke. Cuando su marido Bob regresa a casa, herido y desilusionado, es un hombre distinto, destrozado por la brutalidad del conflicto y Sally se verá forzada a elegir entre su esposo y Luke. Las consecuencias serán dramáticas.

    Comentario

    Hal Ashby (“El último deber”, “Esta tierra es mía”, “Bienvenido Mr. Chance”) firma una conmovedora película sobre las consecuencias de la guerra de Vietnam, muy crítica con el conflicto, que propició el Oscar a sus dos protagonistas, Jane Fonda y Jon Voight. A destacar que gran parte de los heridos que aparecen en el hospital de veteranos de guerra, son auténticos heridos en Vietnam.
